California pedestrians can be at a high risk of an accident whenever they are in the presence of a negligent or distracted driver. Serious injuries such as broken bones or head trauma, and sometimes even fatalities, can result from a pedestrian accident involving a motor vehicle. Drivers are more prone to encounter pedestrian traffic at locations such as shopping malls, athletic stadiums or any areas in close proximity to crosswalks.
A fatal pedestrian accident recently occurred in Hollywood when a 22-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle. The victim was apparently waiting at a bus stop when the incident took place. She was immediately taken to a local hospital, but was unable to be saved from the critical injuries that she had sustained as a result of the crash.
The vehicle driver fled the scene of the accident before authorities had arrived. Witnesses were able to provide police with the make and color of the hit-and-run driver’s car which should aid in their ongoing search. Once the motorist is found, he or she could face repercussions for the victim’s death.
Even though the life of the victim can never be brought back, there are legal means available to her surviving family that could help ease their pain and suffering. Anytime there is evidence suggesting that a fatal pedestrian accident resulted from the negligent actions of another party, a wrongful death suit can be filed in a California civil court. Monetary relief gained from a successful claim can be applied towards burial expenses, funeral costs or other expenses incurred as a result of an unfortunate tragedy.
